Photo Gallery: Stepping Towards the Cure 5K (Oakland)

With more than 400 participants and over $40,000 raised, our First Annual "Stepping Towards the Cure" 5K Fun Run & Walk fundraisers held in both Oakland and Los Angeles were a smashing success!

The Oakland event was held at beautiful Lake Merritt on October 17, 2010. Although the morning started off a bit chilly and wet, our spirits remained high as we mingled to the sounds of MJ's Brass Boppers, a New Orleans style Second Line Brass Band, and stayed warm with Starbucks' coffee and delicious red velvet cupcakes from Sweet Tooth Therapy. Fit and fabulous trainer Roshaun Knox from our partner, Sister's Tri-ing, then took the crowd to another level with an energetic round of stretches and aerobic moves and we were on our way. Folks ran and walked around Lake Merritt, making new friends and catching up with those they already knew. After the last person crossed the finish line we closed out with a special recognition ceremony for those that have been instrumental to the formation of Triple Step Toward the Cure.

The inaugural events celebration continued in Los Angeles the following weekend on October 23, 2010, at the lush and scenic Janice's Green Valley (also known as "the Bowl") located inside of the Kenneth Hahn Park Recreation Area. Inside the Bowl, we were serenaded by the sounds of steel drummer, Nate Middleton, as we warmed up in the crisp morning air with the help of master trainer James Hunt from 24 Hour Fitness. Participants were also treated to five-minute chair massages, courtesy of Sinel Medical Corporation, and amazing treats including kale salad, carrot cake, and trail mix from Veggie Grill and Whole Foods Market Plaza El Segundo.

We are incredibly blown away by the support shown for Triple Step Toward the Cure and our mission. A huge thank you to our many sponsors: Giddy Snacks, Stanford University Cancer Center, St. Joseph's Healthcare, Microsoft, Carol's Daughter, lululemon athletica, Tiffany & Co., Whole Foods Market Plaza El-Segundo, Veggie Grill, Sister's Tri-ing, 24 Hour Fitness, Macy's, Walmart, Tavis Smiley Group, Sweet Tooth Therapy, and Starbucks. We also want to express our gratitude to our amazing volunteers in Oakland and Los Angeles as we could not have made both events so successful without you. Looking forward to stepping out again with everyone next year!
