What do dancing toddlers, dogs in strollers, beautiful people, babies, massages, MJ’s Brass Boppers, and one gorgeous tattooed head have in common? They were all part of the Second Annual "Stepping Towards the Cure" ® 5K Fun Run & Walk ! For the second year in a row, the annual fundraiser brought out several hundred supporters in both Northern and Southern California to encourage and empower women and communities affected by triple negative breast cancer.

The sun shone brightly over scenic Lake Merritt, where the Oakland event was held on September 18, 2011. Participants stepped to the New Orleans style sounds of Second Line Brass Band MJ's Brass Boppers, and got ready to walk with fit and fabulous trainer Roshaun Knox from Sister's Tri-ing, who returned this year to inspire runners, walkers, and supporters alike with her high energy warm up. After the race, participants grooved to music, took advantage of full body or chair massages, and perused several vendors displaying unique and one of a kind jewelry, pottery, clothing, and other items.

Mother Nature blessed us with another gorgeous day two weeks later on Sunday, October 2, 2011 as SoCal showed up and stepped out in style while they ran/jogged/walked/& danced towards the cure. The event was hosted by Emmy® award winning producer and talk radio veteran Dominique DiPrima who helped kick things off on a positive and thoughtful note. Coach Erich Nall of Ultimate Transformations Training next led a wonderful and motivating warm-up session, complete with stretches and words of inspiration. The KJLH radio station van kept the mood upbeat with old school classics and new school hits during the race and afterwards, participants were again treated to treats from Veggie Grill and Whole Foods Market Plaza El Segundo while learning ways to incorporate better living practices into their lives from various health and wellness representatives.
